So I want to chemically straighten my hair- Will It permanently damage it? Will it look real?

Also, if you say no, what is a good, cheap straightener I can use at home? This is what my hair looks like if I just get out of the shower and don't do anything to it: http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w234/...

I want it to look like this: http://futurederm.files.wordpress.com/20... only thicker

NOT like the fake puffy straightened hair that can kind of be shaped. You know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, thanks, best answer gets the 10.

doing this doesnt make your hair that straight, just straighter than it already it.you will still have to straighten it daily if you want it really really straight

a really good straightener is a Chi! its sooooo good, its like $125 , but completely worth ittt!

oh and as for the girl in the pic-your never going to get your hair like that.honestly her hairs like airbrushed and stuff.

well thts cool tht ur gunna do tht n all but ya it will kinda damage ur curly locks but u can fix it by cutting ur hair again n lettin ur new curly hair grow or by conditioning ur hair alot cuz conditioner can help ur hair with the damages.ya i know wat u mean by tht fake hair tht u can tell has been straightened but in a bad way it just makes it look frizzy.dont worry if u take gd care of ur hair then it will look gd n real.though a hair straightner can help too by giving ur hair a finishing touch.use a serum or a heat protecting spray or sunthing like tht wen straightning ur hair so it doesn't turn out frizzy n damaged.

chemically straightening is VERY damaging will never heal

my friend got hers done [she had very thick strong asian hair] and it completely destroyed it

you are gonna need a straightener.

sorry but if it's cheep, it will fry your hair and you will get the same results as a chemical straightening.

you need something made of ceramic.

Chi is obviously one of the most popular, but Folica has some amazing deals on other ceramic straighteners:

also get some thermal protection serums/sprays since you will be doing alot of straightening on that curly hair you have!

good luck

What your talking about is called a Japenese Perm. I have been getting Japanese Perm's for 2 years now. I just got one. It is amazing! My hair was like yours and now it looks like it does in the picture with the model.

PROS:

Your hair is perfectly straight, like the model.

You'll never mess with a straightener until it grows back.

It won't PERMANANTLY damage.

CONS:

It's NOT cheap. It can range from $150-$200

You have to get it done somewhere good or else you wasted your money

You spend more than 4 hours sitting in the salon chair.

It stays for about 8 months until you have to get a new one.

It really damages your hair but I got an oil treatment and it's better now.

I can't think of anymore PROS or CONS because I think that's it. I thought it was worth it. If you do get it though, wait at least 3 days until you wash your hair.

Here are some results:

Here is some information if you scroll down, past the "About Us" column, until you reach "Thermal Reconditioning":

And If you dont get it chemically straightened, CHI makes amazing hair straighteners. My CHI hair straightener was about $180.
