I'm in-between perms so I just want to run a straightening comb through my hair to take the frizz out. Is curling wax ok for this and what type is the best? My hair is thick and long although right now I let it air dry and it's real bushy / frizzy.

In my opinion, don't use curling wax. Curling wax is generally very heavy, and that could actually singe your hair.
Check out pressing cremes or pressing oils. Even heat-activated gels and polishes should work. These products are much lighter than curling wax.
