How should i wash my dry-ish hair?

i'm 'asian' but my hair is thick, wavy, and dry. it's mid length-so it goes down to my chest. since it's a holiday today, i have to wait till next week to get a trim. now, i'm about to go wash my hair, but i don't know how exactly i should cuz it's dry. i think i'm washing it wrong. i read alot and found out that i shouldn't use shampoo with sodium-but i have no choice right now. so should i just use about a dime size amount of shampoo and only put it on my scalp? then for conditioner, do i wait till my hair's dry or put it on when it's wet? and where? any more tips? i want to have silky straight hair like most asians have-like(look at the icons): http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus... but thats kinda impoosible for me even tho i already had jap hair straightening, but i still want something close at least XD ...thanks!

okay here some tips for sily hair.

1. get shampoo and condition that says it hydrates your hair. like herbal essences hello hydration brand.

2.put a glob of shampoo the size of a golf ball in your hand. put in in all your hair. scalp especially.

3. put a quarter size glob of conditioner in your hair but not on your roots and scalp. just where it hangs down. do this when your hair is wet.

it might help to use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. Like Garnier Fructis has stuff for "dry or damaged hair" They have "Sleek and Shine" Maybe you should try washing your hair every other day, it might help your hair become less dry and more regular.

maybe every other time you take a shower wash your hair..you can still put in conditioner every time but just dont wash your hair everytime..if you wash it too much you zap it of its natural oils..comb in a deep conditioner 3-4x/week through your whole head

get a shampoo and conditioner for dry or damaged hair. squeeze as much water as possible out of your hair before you shampoo and condition it so your hair absorbs it better...shampoo every other day, but condition every time u shower. and dont use conditioner on the roots...it can make hair flat or oily looking. try a deep conditioner once a week. and dont use a golf ball size amount of shampoo like that one person said...if u do that u will be spending a lot of money on shampoo. a dime size amount is fine. if u use heat tools on your hair that also makes it dry so cut back if u can...good luck :)

i have almost the exact same problem, i'd get a moisturizing shampoo %26amp; conditioner and then get a moisturizing/anti frizz thing for after
