Has anyone got their hair chemically straightened?

i have curly hair and am thinking about it - im in N Ireland -anyone any ideas on how much it costs and if its effective, or bad for my hair cause of the chemicals etc? Straightening irons take me all day and still i cant get it all straight.

I wouldnt do it, Im a hairdresser, and we've done loads, but it depends on the persons hair rather than asking will it harm your hair, some can take it some can't - plus like some people have already said when the roots grow back, it'll be curly you'll find it even worse to straighten them bits until they grow out more!

I had my hair chemically straightened in May. It's lasted pretty well, I'm starting to get some waves in it now. I paid about $15 for it. It can be damaging, but my hair ended up less damaged than if I had been using a flat iron on it every day. I did a deep conditioning treatment about a week after I had it straightened and my hair was back to healthy condition.

Umm why don't you use frizz ease if frizz is the problem. I wouldn't recommend putting chemicals on your hair, it will ruin it. I had bleach put in mine, highlights. Now some of the hair that was bleached has gone grey and white now! it's horrible. Just invest in a decent pair of straighteners and let them get really hot before you use them.

it doesnt hurt ur hair but when ur hair starts to grow back the roots will be curly where it grows! talk to ur hairdresser.

i used to have gorgeous curly hair, but didnt really like it so i got my hair chemically straightened. now i hate it i wish i never did it. my hair dosnt hold curl and only wants to be straight. i dont suggest it. your better off buying an expensive hair straightener

It works but it is really harsh on your hair. I wouldn't suggest it. Not only will you have major split ends that will have to be cut you will still have to blow dry the hair flat after every shower which will cause even more damage. Depending on how curly your hair naturally is, the chemical straightener is really just going to make it "wavy" not "straight".

my sister and i have naturally curly hair,i love my curls,but my sister goes the hairdressers to get her hair chemically straightened,pays quite a bit(sorry dont know how much),2 days later,it gets the curls again,and she cant get her hair as straight using straightning irons herself.so personally i think its a waste of money.we all want what we havent got,ask a girl with perfectly straight hair,i bet she'll say she wishes her hair was curly.

i suggest you chemically straighten your hair. my sister and my friend chemically straightened their hair and its strait but it looks and feels so tough and rough. its cost can vary from $100-$250 and it makes it straight but if your hair is frizzy it will stay frizzy.

If your hair is REALLLY curly, i wouldn't recommend it, you'll have curly roots when it starts growing out.

Yes it's damaging, but so is colouring your hair, and we still all do that.

A reconstructing protein treatment directly afterwards will fix your damage, and continue them for the weeks to come after.

i would say dont have it done.........its just a reverse perm.......(honestly)...........when you you use irons.......make sure you get ones with a heat degree of at least 210.c.................its the heat of the irons that makes the difference

i have chemically straightened my hair..and i loved it...it cost me around $20 to buy it at a store..and if i would have done it professionally it wouldve been done around $100 and some dollars...it really depends on what brands they sell in N ireland..but the one i got worked really well....take the risk..and try it.

I've gotten my hair chemically straightened. Its only bad for your hair if you don't take good care of it afterwards. You also have to continue getting it straightened about every 3 months

DONT DO IT!! it wears off really easilly and u cant wash ur hair for 3-5 days after u get it done! it STINKS BAD!!!!!

yes i have been having my hair straightened using YUKO for around 3 years - before then i had very unmanageable frizzy unmanageable hair - quite long - and used to spend around 1 hour with the straightners every morning - damp weather was also a nightmare - i have coloured hair (not highlights) and this combined with YUKO does dry it out a little - however given i used to straighten it every day anyway - i dont think the condition is significantly work

YUKO is an investment - i have to get it done around every 4 months (cost around 250 GBP) and it takes 6 hours due to the length and strength of my hair - however its great waking up and being able to simply wash and go!

Don't get your hair chemically straightened as it is a recipe for disaster You will most likely get a lot of hair breakage Instead try blow waving your hair straight go and see a hairdresser and ask what products are required maybe you could try a straightening balm
